Positive Thinking and Business Success

Much has been written about the power of positive thinking. On the spiritual level, this is the equivalent of "the world is what you think it is", as our thoughts and perceptions create our reality. It may be hard to accept that we create our reality, since that makes us responsible for the tragedies in our lives. This is not a problem if we believe in reincarnation and the soul's desire for evolution. That theory suggests that we choose our life lessons before birth in order to further our own evolution.

Even without that belief, quantum physics has shown how quantum particles are affected by our thoughts and perceptions. (I suggest Capra's excellent book The Tao of Physics if you want to know more) This lends scientific proof that our thoughts do create our reality, so changing deep-rooted and limiting beliefs is essential to creating business success.

This is a very difficult thing to achieve. Many of the self-limiting thoughts are deeply ingrained and operate on a sub-conscious level, so are very difficult to acknowledge and change. Daily positive affirmations help, though the process is slow. A lot of us feel we are not worthy of success, and of course the universe will support that view and we will fail in order to keep our world view intact.

Many, many books have been written on the importance of positive thinking. Here I can see no conflict between spirituality and marketing, and in fact, spirituality does provide the impetus and tools for business success. Belief in one's self and one's abilities is critical for success, as is focussing on what we want in our life and thus creating that reality.

Sounds simple, doesn't it? Well, I've been working on changing my limiting beliefs for years now, and it is no easy thing. I can fully appreciate and understand the importance of positive thinking, but consistently maintaining that positive attitude is hard work and requires constant vigilance and self-awareness. Perhaps I've over-complicated the process, and it's simpler than I think. At any rate I know my business will never get off the ground unless I do change those beliefs.

So my exercise for today is to write down my self-limiting beliefs, and replace them with positive affirmations. I am convinced that working on the spiritual aspects of creating the world you want definitely will enhance your business success. Here's to positive thinking!

Spirituality and Marketing: Mutually Exclusive or Uneasy Bedfellows

I have always felt some antipathy towards marketing, but recently jumped in and started my own business on the net. My question is, does this compromise my spiritual integrity? Will my spiritual principles remain intact while I engage in marketing my website?

Probably my most important spiritual principle is "First do no harm.". Okay, that seems all right...no harm in showing people how to make money on the Net. In fact, this may actually be perceived as helping people. So I'm not violating that principle here, though there are still some reservations about whether this really counts as helping people. I'll have to wait and see if I actually am showing the way to a better life. The test case of course is myself - will this marketing venture improve my life?

The company I chose appealed to me because it offered ten daily affirmations, using the basic principles of positive thinking and changing limiting views. That's just fine with me spiritually, as it fits neatly with my beliefs about how the universe works. I am a bit uncomfortable with the affirmations of wealth, but I suspect that's because I have a deep-rooted belief that "Money is the root of all evil." or some such limiting belief. More work required here!

I think I will have to believe that I can still evolve spiritually while engaging in marketing my home business. Who knows? Perhaps being financially independent will free up more mind space for spiritual practices. It's sometimes hard to maintain the spirit connection while wondering where your next meal is coming from! At any rate, this blog is one of the first steps on my journey, and time will show how this affects my spirituality...stay tuned!
